I was in a heavily wooded area 24 hours ago and I now have two bites on my chest and they are pink in color. I squeezed and nothing came out. Would the tick be visible through the skin?

Yeah, generally only the mouth of the tick goes into the skin and the rest of the tick stays on the surface getting 'fat' as it gets its nutrients from you. Other parasites can get under your skin, but I haven't heard of ticks that do.

You'll know it. A tick will look like a little black pea coming out of your skin; a round brownish blackish body, and if you look closely, you'll see little legs.
If you do a get a tick, I usually use a blown-out but still hot match, or burning cigarette, to kill the tick; and then I use a needle to pry the head / mandibles out of the skin. You want to make sure to remove the head, which is burried into your skin, so don't just yank off the tick - otherwise you'll get an infection.

Anyway, doesn't sound like you have ticks. Just a bug bite.

Ticks do NOT go INTO the body -- they remain on the surface. If the bites are raised and form a lump, are pink and itch -- they are NOT tick bites.
