My son came home with a question about drugs last week (he's in 3rd grade). I was wanting to find a website that has pictures of different kinds of drugs that are cirrculating right now so he will know them when he sees them. I hate to admit that I know very little about the drug scene and don't know what to warn him against. I need a crash course, can someone please give me a website or some other type of information so I can better talk to my children about drugs? Thanks!

A letter was sent home with a picture of one drug that was found in a 5th graders locker. I'm not going to 'threaten' my children - but I will be honest and upfront. My parents were up front with me when I was growing up and I'm one of the very people who have never even smoked pot let alone done anything else. I just needed some websites and pictures so I can warn my kids about drugs. I'm afraid in this day in age it's never too soon.

I applaud you for wanting to do this, and the answerers have given great sites to try. However, one thing to know yourself as a mom is that some things are not always as they seem. Kids think they are getting e, or ecstasy, but often these days it is laced with meth, just to get them hooked more easily.
A current "fad" is LSD on a page, like in the 60s. Scary for us because kids might think they look cool because of the designs and colours, and they just have to lick them.
We ALL have to be so careful, and keeping our children informed is really important. Your son is rather young - mine is at the super-scary stage of being in high school! No matter how "good" the school, there are always drugs.

Hugs. Can on no account get adequate. and that's a extreme without undesirable area consequences. i've got had some memorable hugs ... those that i did not see coming have been the terrific. They depart you all giddy and walking on tip-toe, and grow to be contagious -- you choose to hug anybody else besides. John Cleese reported something approximately hugs -- he reported the human beings have been extra suitable than the English in that way. He have been given hugged by applying an American actor whom he had purely comprehensive some artwork with, and became into a great deal surprised, yet enjoyed it. An Englishman would on no account be so actual, he reported.

A quick search on images.google.com will bring up a lot of pictures of any drug you're thinking about. Also, the drugs that are circulating "right now" are pretty much the same ones that have always been around - marijuana, cocaine, Heineken, Marlboros, etc. Any newer drugs are usually psychoactive chemicals that come in pill or powder form and can come in a zillion different sizes or colors.

www.talktofrank.com

It's a British website so you can't use the helpline and the legal advice only applies to the UK but the rest of the information is sound. You can search for drugs by their proper or street names and there are clear pictures for reference.

www.erowid.org ...it's a website that shows pics and talks abut the drugs themselves

As for drugs, don't threaten your children...Most kids are going to experiment during their teens. If your child is only 8 years old, then it's good to let him know what's out there and how dangerous they are...but you're definitely going to need to have this talk w/ him again when he reaches his tweens and beyond. I'm not trying to tell you how to parent...but alot of parents are in denial when it comes to their children and experimentation whether it be sexual or drug related.
