Clostridium tetani..... Tetanus is an acute, often-fatal disease of the nervous system that is caused by the nerve toxins of the bacterium called Clostridium tetani. This bacteria is found throughout the world as a normal element in the soil and in animal and human intestines.

Because this behaviour is only when she eats I think having a lot of people moving around her and interfering with her water dish while she is eating is making your dog nervous. In general it is a good idea to feed her in the same place each time and ideally in an area where she will not be disturbed. Teach your children never to touch her or her bowls while she is eating. Get a book on training or advice from your vet about training your dog do this soon, as a dog who is well trained and has a good routine will in most cases be less nervous and a better family pet. I think it is important to set an example to your children and show them that there is no reason to be scared of the dog. However, if you feel you are scared of the dog and cannot keep her after what has happened it may be best to look at re homing her as keeping her will not do you, your children or the dog any favours in the long run.
