I have been taking vicoden for 1 year now and I am getting so ammuned to it that it does not really even help I have asked my doctor to give me something stronger and he will not . My last x-rays showed another herniated disc as well as anterier arthrodesis and a nerve pushing on my spine. Since I have no health insurance its been very difficult to determine the amount of damage to my back only what the xrays have shown I am only 47 and I feel like I am pushing 80 because of the amount of pain I encounter every single day If the pain gets unbearable I am on the heating pad most of the day,This is no quality of life and I have tried to go to a pain management doctor but they pretty much told me if I did not have insurance that it would cost me thousnds of dollars and they never called me back after I said that I still wanted an appointment. Nice world we live in.If you don't have health insureance doctors can just turn you away.

I am 48 and have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriasis, Scoliosis of my lumbar spine, Kyphosis of my thoracic spine and yes prolapsed discs. My Doc gave me Fentanyl Patches, morphine, but I went to Pilates and am now Aqua Jogging. I am also a wheelchair user waiting to see a Neurologist, see if they can remove these discs. However I find relief in Aqua Jogging as even with the morphine I get break through pain and now have peripheral nerve damage. My only advise keep mobile, strengthen the muscles and that will help to relieve the pain. Degenerative Disc Disease is not a actual disease but part of the aging process. The Discs dehydrate as we age.

I had 3 laminectomies,(ruptured disc repair surgery) 2 in 1980 and 1 in 1982. Had 3 different ruptured disc, each repaired with the surgery meaning they opened me up, scraped away the disc material that had come out and closed me back up. I currently have a bulging disc that bothers now and then if I over do. The pain before surgery was horrid and the surgeries were great but I don't know if they dot hat any more, after all, that was a long time ago. Never had the spine fusion thing, the thought of that scares me. I don't want anything fused! I do have permanent nerve damage from the ruptured disc. I cannot lay flat without extreme pain and cannot sleep except in a hospital bed so I can adjust the position to suit me. No one wants to fix the bulging disc as I have lots of scar tissue from the other surgeries so I cope. Good luck.

Go find a Bowen Therapist. Bowenwork will releive the pain and after the initial few sessions to relieve your pain you will only have to go in when you have flare ups. Unlike a chiro that wants to see you every week for the rest of your life. The sessions are no more than 1x a week

There are places to get help. There are some FREE Clinics around that can help. Most towns have at least one free clinic or even more. You have to have help from somewhere. Is there a Lion's Club in your town? They help a lot of people. Call information and ask if they have a number. If there is a hospital and doctors there has to be somebody who can help you. Call a church for help. Do you have a pastor of your own? Keep asking around until you get help. Call the Salvation Army...they help a lot of people.
