I need to obtain my medical records from infancy for current re-evaluation. They did tests on me 28 years ago that are essential to current diagnosis. (so I'm told). My records were all with a Dr. who is now deceased. Does anyone know how I can find 28 year old medical records? Could they have been destroyed?

Yeesh. They could have been destroyed, but they might be in a warehouse somewhere. My mother was in the Dalcron Shield lawsuit in the 80s and she was able to get her records from 1971! I have the records now (my mother is now deceased). So it's not unheard of.

Find out what insurance your parents had and contact them to see if they know anything or have copies.

If you live in a relatively small town, your doctor probably passed his practice on to someone else who might still be in practice. Call a few doctors offices and ask.

Call the local hospital (or the hospital where you were born) and see if you can speak to one of the administrators. Tell them your problem and ask if they know anyone who has been in the medical community of the area for a long time. That person might remember something that will help you.

I also wonder if you could contact your state medical board or state medical examiner's office. Try your state's website to see if there's contact info. Maybe they would know something.

Good luck! :)

was it at a doctors office or at a hospital?
A hospital would defiantly keep records. but if it's at a doctors office.. It might be hard to remember (for your parents I mean) but was there another doctor there besides him? Because they might have missed throwing it away (they do throw it away after a certain amount of years, but lets just hope they didn't)

If they don't have it, ask the office assistant where they send samples for that type of testing .. That company might hold copies as well.

Ask your parents if they have a copy. (Although I think you might have done that already) but try to look into old files they have.. they just might not remember having it.

if all is lost, then research for a way to help for your current diagnosis. talk to other doctors and see what they say.

I hope you find what your looking for

More than likely they have been destroyed. If there were records from a hospital, the hospital might have records on you. But I'm pretty sure the records from the doctor are long gone.

Bear in mind that 80 year old umbrellas may still be very capable of shooting the odd bear. Secret is in the maintenance & practice, even on sunny days.

They could have records at the hospital in which his practice was affiliated with.

Contact his family.....if his practice is no longer in business then his family probably acquired his medical records.

Contact the AMA of the state where he practiced. They should be able to help you track down your records.

It can be problematic. If your doctor was a private one maybe he, his family carries the documents. But most probably it is lost.

Maybe a time machine can help...
