I just joined the National Guard recently and my recruitor mentioned how piercings are looked down on and then i talked to a girl in the army who said dying your hair is also looked down on.
So I need clear answers cause google isn't helping.
Are piercings banned (even if it's a small nose stud)?
And can you dye your hair?

I'm not sure about US military regulations (me being Australian) but usually hair can be dyed a natural colour (ie: not pink or green etc). As for piercings...well I think ur looking at it from the wrong perspective. If you are in the army it would be best not to have any piercings... have u ever had a peircing ripped out?? It will hurt a lot I'm sure! LOL You will be carrying heavy loads on your shoulders crawling through bushes, barbed wire etc etc any of which could easily snag a piercing causing a rather painful injury. And yes even small studs can get caught on things I have seen it happen! Good luck and stay safe.

Piercings....you can have your ears pierced and that is it. Try to keep it to one hole just in the lobes of your ear.

Piercings anywhere else are prohibited. Meaning - no, you cannot have them. Some units will push the issue and you can get into trouble even if you can't see the piercing...belly button or other place.

Hair color - you can dye your hair as long as it is a natural looking color. You can dye your hair red or blue, but you can dye it a lighter shade of blond or a darker shade of brown. You can get highlights.

The thing about the military is this. You are a representative of the government. You should keep a clean and somewhat conservative appearance.

The next time you are with your unit, ask them to see the uniform regs manual. It will contain all of the different things you can and can't wear and when.

It has to be a stud and only in the bottom of your ear. NO FACIAL piercings, no tongue. Your hair has to be a natural hair color. No streaks of wild color or anything like that. Your nails aren't even suppose to be painted any crazy colors. Your make up has to be to a min., no glitter or crazy color eye shadow or lip stick. You can't have the cat eye contacts or anything like that. Your hair has to be kept off your shoulders at all time. Pretty much you have to look as natural as you did when you were born. You may get away with small things here and there but it only take one person to have a bad day and it's all going to fall on you. Doing that stuff makes your self a target for *** chewings so i'd avoid it.

Google will answer your question you just need a little help. First, no piercings are allowed in any service except for the ears and that is on women only. Only in the Airforce are they allowed to wear earrings while on duty except for the dress uniform.....again, women only. Next, hair can be dyed as long as it is in keeping with your natural color. That should answer your question although you can Google Army Regulation 670-1 and find out for yourself. You would have to get some advice on the other services from individuals who serve in them.

AR 670-1 Wear and Appearance of the Military uniform

Read it.
You are not allowed to have ANY piercings whatsoever.
You are only allowed to have a natural hair color; it does not have to be your natural hair color but no green pink blue, etc.
If you are female the only time you can wear earrings are when in class A's or B's, and they must be studs only.

Search for Army Regulation AR 670-1 (Wear and Appearance) It states however that only females may wear earings. While doing so it can only be a certain size and one per ear. As far as hair coloring goes the regulation states that it has to look natural in appearance. So you can dye it any color you want as long as it could be your natural hair color.

The answer is that the piercing cannot be visible. So facial piercings or tongue piercings not allowed. Earrings only in certian uniforms. We aint Zoomies! Anywhere else is your business. As to hair color it must be natural looking. IE no flaming red or hot pink. Switching from blond to red is ok.

You cannot wear any piercings while in uniform. Only small studs in your ears. (females only) You can of course wear any non-visible one you want and alot of people keep their tongue rings in too, since they heal up so quick. But they put the smallest stud they have in it.

You cannot however wear a nose ring. It's not looked down upon, it's downright not allowed.

You can only die your hair natural colors. You cannot die it: Green, Blue, Purple, Bright Red, Pink, etc.
