soft or extra soft toothbrush only! No pressure when brushing, might try switching to holding toothbrush with thumb and two fingers to avoid too much pressure. Gentle circles when brushing. If too much recession is occuring it can need surgery/grafting, sometimes the attachments around the mouth can be too tight and pull the gums down (this usually happens in middle areas of front of mouth).

There is nothing you can do to reverse a receding gum line but you can help to prevent it receding further by using dental floss at least once a day. Don't worry if they bleed for the first week or as this will stop once you gum get healthier. I would also suggest a mouth wash.

You can try to control the receding. But sorry, it will not reverse to how your gumline looked before. It may come back very little but not like before. Switch to a soft/extra soft toothbrush. Ask your dentist to teach you how to brush. I did that and realized I was beating up my gums. She said to "tickle" ur gums. Do a "M" up to my gumline. And DON'T scrub. It damages ur gums and ur teeth. My doctor suggest gum grafting. Where they take tissue from the roof my mouth and place it on the receding area. Also smoking can make ur gums recede. See ur dentist and rule out gum disease also. Good luck!

Check with your dentist to make sure there is no gum disease first. If you really don't have gum disease and the receding gum line is caused by brushing your teeth too hard - switch to electric brush. It will stop getting worse and start to grow back a little.
It happened to me and my family member. Back then I even used an ultra soft tooth brush, I still hurt my gum by brushing it too hard. It's hard to control yourself. You know! Sometimes, you really want to get it clean and brush too hard unconsciously.
Check drugstore.com to see the reviews of electric brush. You don't have to buy an expensive one. Find one with good reviews.

HELLO,
WHY HAS YOUR GUM RECEDED?
THE ANSWER IS BECAUSE OF THE BRISTLES BEING TOO HARD AND THE PRESSURE FROM YOUR HAND TO THE BRUSH TO THE GUMS IS TOO GREAT.
SO IS IT EASY TO REVERSE?
NO.
WHY NOT?
THE UNDERLYING BONE UNDER THE GUMS HAS ITSELF RECEDED. AND THIS BONE ONCE LOST CAN'T BE BUILD BACK UP.
SO THEN, WHAT BAY BE DONE COSMETICALLY?
PERIODONTAL SURGERY WITH A GUM GRAFT OVER THE PLACES OF RECESSION CAN BE DONE.
THE FINAL RESULTS ARE GOOD AND VISUALLY, IT APPEARS VERY NORMAL.
A PERIODONTIST SHOULD BE CONSULTED.
