What does Melchizedek have to do with your question? Melchizedek was a high priest after the order of the Son of God--so respected that Abraham paid him tithes and offerings. Read your Bible (Gen. 14: 18-20; Heb. 5: 6; 7: 1-3). It is unclear if Melchizedek practiced plural marriage or not--neither is it important to know. The most important item to remember about the man is that he bore the very Priesthood of God in whose name we refer out of the respect and sanctity of not repeating the name of Deity.
Any active Mormon today is prohibited to engage in plural marriage at the risk of excommunication from the Church and will face fines and/or imprisonment for such illegal activity. Those engaging in polygamy are not true Mormons and the Church has no control over them.

I'm not sure I fully understand your question. I am Mormon, and if you meant for Mormons not to answer, I'm sorry.
I'm not sure why a Mormon would spontaneously start "preaching" to you about Melchizedek. Melchizedek was a great High Priest that lived in the time of Abraham. Jesus was called a high priest "after the order of Melchizedek" (Heb. 5:6,10). In the LDS (Mormon) church, worthy men can be ordained to this order of the Priesthood.
If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me.
In answer to your first question, no, Mormon men cannot have more than one wife. It is against the law of the United States and against modern Church policy. Any man who has a polygamous relationship is excommunicated from the Church. Despite past church policy (1800s) and stories of modern polygamists like Warren Jeffs (who are not part of our Church), polygamy is absolutely forbidden in our Church.

To simply answer the first part of your question. No Mormons can not have more than 1 wife. Over 10 years ago they could. Since than no they can not.
Some of the others have answered the question about Melchizedek quite clearly.
As for Mrpeepers statement "Women get to smile, be humble ,follow directions and be quiet. "
I have not seen too many Mormon women like that. Mormon women tend to be vocal and state their opinion often.

You may not get accurate answers from either christians or mormons on this one. Have you used Yahoo to find answers? This question has been brought up many times and should be pretty much put to rest.
You also won't get too much info on the priesthood thing from a non-member, unless its a christian fundie who can find the antichrist lurking in a Betty Crocker cookbook.
But the correct answer is "No, not anymore". FYI: There's a hierarchy of male-only priesthoods in the morg: Aaronic (Deacons, teachers & priests) and Melchezeldek (Elders and high priests). Women get to smile, be humble ,follow directions and be quiet.
Apologies to Jack - I meant "pregnant"

Depends on what kind of christian denomination your asking most are ignorant of other religions. So maybe you should stick with asking a Mormon not a Christian.

It seems funny to me that you wouldn't want Mormons to answer a question about Mormons. If you want to know about gravity ask a physicist, if you want to know about the flu ask a doctor, if you want to know about Christianity as a Christian, if you want to know about Islam ask a Muslim, if you want to know about Mormons as a Mormon.

in my opinion, no one should have more than one spouse. isn't polygamy illegal in most 1st world countries? besides, I tend to go with what the Bible says...
1) having multiple wives tended to cause trouble. God even told Solomon not to.
2) you can't be 100% loving to both. what happens when you want to sleep with both? you can't have two at a time.
3) pastors are instructed to have 1 wife. if pastors are to be good examples, and they have 1 wife...
so no.

Nope....Mormons can only have 1 wife.
Mormons who try to have more than one are promptly excommunicated and are no longer Mormons.

All male mormons are technically preists. It can't be disputed that Mr. J Smith, the martyr of mormons was a practicing polygamist & so was Brigham Young. They LOVE downplaying that there still are many secret polygamists within their faith.
