Yes, first of all......look at the whole picture. With smoking there are no pros other than the "pleasure" he gets from smoking a cigarette. There are more cons to smoking than you would believe like, lung cancer, risk of causing fire, pallutes your home (furniture, clothes, carpet....etc.),burns a hole in your pocket, causes teeth to tarnish (yellow), gives you bad breath! There are several reasons to quite smoking than to continue! You're husband is addicted to tabacco and it isn't healthy because he is in denial, which means that he may become abusive and get withdrawls if he stops to smoke. Think about it this way....an average cigarette costs what...$4.00 with tax?
Multiply that by 2=$8.00. Your husband spends an average of $56.00 on cigarettes a week!
So in a month he spends $224.00 a month. That is way too much money. That can be a car payment or that money can go to something else. In a year your husband spends about $2,700 in cigarettes. That is a lot of money. He may not see this so you may have to draw it out for him. Don't let him influence you to continue to smoke and it may be tempting, but when you get tempted think about all of that money that you guys are spending and that money can go to something useful like a mortgage payment or utility bills.
A way that can encourage both of you is to reward each other for not smoking. But you guys have to make a comittment and promise to each other. If he doesn't want to then you can't change him.....but do it for yourself and people around you. Buy the nicorette patch......

Another thing about smoking is that it not only reuins your home but also your image. Your teeth will go from bad breath to having black teeth and polluted lungs. It also causes you to age drastically and give you lines around your lips....which is pretty effin disgusting! Think about that whenever you want to light a cigarette! Good Luck!

Ignore all solutions that approach it from a nicotine withdrawal perspective ; You stop smoking by stopping the habit .Nicotine withdrawal is not that big a deal in fact once you get over it you will wonder why everybody made such a big deal about it in the first place. I have have had colds that made me feel worse than the "nicotine withdrawal ". OK you'll be a little cranky for a couple of days but then it's over and done with.
The habit is a whole 'nother story because there are just so many things you do in your life that have a cigarette involved with them and now you have to do it w/o a cigarette .
Coffee and a cigarette in the morning
Go out have a couple of drinks have a cigarette, come home do the wild thing have a cigarette after
Driving by yourself -light up a cigarette or two
It's that whole oral fixation thing going on.
People gain weight after smoking for two reasons;
They need to satisfy the oral need and because they stopped smoking food actually tastes better so they eat more of it.
When I finally quit over 10 years ago it was Christmas present to my ex-wife who is 12 years younger than I am. I figured that given the age difference I should do all I could to keep me around as long as possible-Fate had other plans
So do go cold turkey
Don't worry about the weight
Change habits
Start a cigarette money fund by saving all the money you would have spent on cigarertes for a year and taking a nice vacation together. Given the price of cigareettes today , you can afford go to some really great places.
Good luck

You have to agree to do this together and make each other stay off of the habit. Otherwise you cannot make someone quit that isn't ready to or doesn't want to. The best way to try to convince him is your concern for his health. Perhaps he would be open to trying the patch for a while and seeing if that helps to kick the habit.

As funny as it sounds, what got my dad to recently quit was the cost of the habit. Rising gas prices dictate cut backs for him and that is about what it took to break a ten year habit

There are many programs and meds to assist you. Show him or tell him all the bad things that can happen with smoking. Go on-line and see all the disgusting things you can get from being a smoker. You can also get a chest X-Ray to see spots on your lungs.

i was going to try the hypnosis...I've heard of people quitting on that. But you have to really want to. He has to also.
