So long as you are not accepting Catholic answers, you will not find Way to Truth and, by association, a happy and peaceful Life.

Way, Truth, and Life - Jesus.
Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life."
See how easy it can be to find trut happiness? Of course, happiness is going to ellude you for some time because you're not accepting Catholic answers at this point in time.

You will find Truth many places including the bible. The truth however is not determined by where you find it but by your innate recognition of it. One recognizes truth when it resonates with what is already in one's heart, even though one is not consciously aware. Being awake to truth is the same as being happy. One does not have to change to be happy, only to become aware of what is real.

Happiness is in Jesus Christ.
Who is Jesus? What does He teach?
To learn that, you have to learn the Faith. To learn the Faith, you must go to His Church, the Roman Catholic Church.
This is not rhetoric or propaganda on my part. My answers come from my own personal search for that same happiness and truth, which I finally found when I discovered home in the Catholic Church.

Read Psalm 146, It tells you what you have to do to be happy. Proverbs 14:20; James 1:12; These scriptures are a help, but you have to read them, think about what they are saying and then apply them.

There are no words that can make you happy...
Words can only guide you, and your inner soul, towards acceptance of the truths you can only find within yourself.
So many people all want a happy life, and a happy life is just a string of happy moments. But most people do not allow the happy moments because they are so busy trying to get a happy life.

Start 'listening' - reading, and thinking about all those passages where Jesus tells his disciples to be at peace! To me these are some of the passages that make me feel best.
I am Catholic, but I don't know why you didn't want answers from Catholics.

True happiness should come from inside of you. Happiness doesn't always come with the large things, but with the small simple things. Sometimes people miss the forest for the trees.

You can read the Book all you want but it will not bring happiness. That comes from accepting God. You can't read His word but not believe. You cannot believe in Him and rebuke His word. They go hand in hand.
If you believe in His word and live you life according to His will, you will find happiness. He promises all of His children that we will find peace in his salvation.
My advice: Let go, let God. Ask Him to come to you and He will. Open your heart so you can see and hear Him.
