It would all depend on what you are going for. Unless you are going to Ft. Rucker for Warrant Officer Candidate School or helicopter flight school then Japan wins hand down.

Nothing against Alabama, but go to Japan. It's a once in a life time opportunity, and it will be one the greatest experiences of your life. Japanese culture and history is fascinating. The country is beautiful and you will gain an appreciation for a people and culture that you would not otherwise have the privilege of experiencing. After you return from Japan, you can always visit Alabama. If you decide not to go, I would love to go in your place. Enjoy life - GO FOR IT!

What is your MOS and what would you be doing in each assignment?

Are you married and if so where does your spouse want to go?

Myself? I would go to Japan again if given the opportunity but it is not a slam dunk for everyone. Say you have a dependent with a medical condition or learning disability. Neither place may do for you. So understand your requirements for:
Career, Family, and miscellaneous considerations then choose which assignment best fits you.

Have fun it will be there in either assignment IF you look for it.

Japan...you get a lot of COLA and Japan is very hard to get...we only have a small number of soldiers there...I would take Japan in a heart beat...it is 10,000 times better than Korea, because the Japanese actually like Americans and you will not be deployed from there...

Japan, because you never know when you might get to travel outside the US again. It might be once in a lifetime chance. Besides getting to know a different culture. Broaden you mind, learn what you can while you can about the world.
