Be sure to have your computer and other electronics protected by a high qualify surge protector; you also need to have a UPC. The cost of one will generally depend on just how long you want your system to run after a poweer failure and how much you want to plug into it. I don't know of any company except APC that makes them; that's who made mine.

If a storm is comin', unplug the dang thing right away. That is the safest.

Yeah, you need an UPC this stuff provides you emergency energy so your PC still working even the electricity down. Finish and save any important works then unplug your monitor from Cpu, keep em all in a some big waterresistant bag then put it in a save place...

The best way is to use a UPC. That way you will have time to save what you are working on and then do a correct shut down.
