if you could provide more specifics about what you are looking for, it would help. are you looking for a daytrip? a weekend? to move and commute from? to buy land? are you looking for quiet and pictoresque or an active nightlife and/or arts scene?

most nice places in that travel range are not as inexpensive as they used to be, also. be prepared.

Atlantic City, The Jersey Shore, Great Adventure, Jones Beach, Long Beach....It really depends on what you're looking to do.
