I have 8 days at spare and a mid sized sedan and i have to see Great Ocean Drive and Alice Springs. Can someone please plan me a trip..!!! The journey is more important than the destination since this is going to be my first and last road trip in this country. I do plan to see things on the way. So can someone please guide me taking into considerations all the above mentioned limitations.

if you only have 8 days then you obviously dont want to actually see much. to do the GOR well, you need at least 4 days, stopping along the way to look at stuff. The drive to Alice can take 2 days, then another day to get to the rock. You dont say whether you intend on coming back the same way? IF you do, then I would say, its pretty impossible, and would be a waste of your time.

The distance from Melbourne to Adelaide (not on the GOR) is nearly 800km, which taking into account traffic can take 1 full day, stopping only for fuel.

Have a look at the link below. If you were to do it too quickly, I really think you would regret it.

My advice to you is to do it only to Adelaide and either fly to Alice or leave it out. You really are going to be pushed for time

Melbourne to Adelaide via the Great Ocean Road can be done in one day but I would allow two so you can stop and look at the scenery on the way and places like Mt Gambier. Adelaide itself is worth at least two or three days. You can go blue whale watching at the right time of year from Robe in southern SA. The drive north to Alice Springs will take at least two days but I would allow three for sightseeing on the way.

If you are interested in wineries, the Barossa valley is but one of many wine areas you will drive through

If you look at a road map, it'll be pretty obvious. There's only one main road for each place you wanna see. I'd personally make a stop and taste some wines in Barossa valley while on your way up to Alice Springs.
