Well if you are referring to christianity and in particular Catholicism then the risk is quite high.
Jesus didn't form Christianity. He started the Nazarenes, or gnostic movement (see: http://one-faith-of-god.org/new_testament/apocrypha/nazarenes/nazarenes_0010.htm).
Jesus from his upbringing as a prince and noble, knew that the Sadducee High Priests of the Temple were double-speakers- that they claimed to worship god, but in fact worshipped satan.
Jesus went so far as to get his apostles to produce original gospels that exposed YHWH as pure evil, a jealous god, a vengeful god and certainly not a god that created the universe, nor possessing wisdom.
So hateful were the Sadducees and Pharisees at the betrayal by Jesus that the deliberately created the parasitic religion of christianity through Paul of Tarsus to destroy the message of Jesus by consuming it.
See:
http://one-faith-of-god.org/new_testament/apocrypha/founders_christianity/founders_christianity_0010.htm
So when you say "Amen" in a christian ceremony, chances are you are really worshipping the serpent god of Egypt- the devil.

It depends who or what you worship.
The First Commandment forbids idolatry. Man commits idolatry whenever he honors and reveres a something in place of God, whether this be gods or demons (for example, satanism), power, pleasure, race, ancestors, the state, money, etc.
In the lands that surrounded Israel, there were many who worshiped false gods including the Egyptians. Later the Jews had to deal with the Greek and Roman gods and goddesses worshiped by their Governors and occupying forces.
Today people put many things in front of God in their lives including money, status, self, power, etc.
With love in Christ.
