Your blurry vision is your need to wear glasses but it shouldn't prevent your from getting contacts. Perhaps, when you get older (I don't how old your are), you might be a good candidate for a Laser treatments.
Astigmatism is caused by an unevenly shaped eyeball (like a rugby ball). Because only parts of the image are correctly focused, distortion is caused at all distances.
About half of glasses wearers have this added problem.
The dry eye-syndrome can be helped with eye drops which you can get @ your local drug store.

I think this will help you understand it better.
Astigmatism is the shaping of your cornea. A regular (or no astigmatism) eyeball is shaped round, like a baseball. An eyeball with astigmatism is shaped more like a football. So maybe that helped. There are varying degrees of astigmatism as well, it might be very slight. That is corneal astigmatism. There is also lenticular astigmatism which is in the lens, behind the cornea. As for contacts, yes you can wear them. A long time ago you couldn't unless you wore what are called gas permeable lenses, now you can wear what are called toric lenses. So discuss this with your eyedoctor and he'll also be able to tell you how much your astigmatism is. Many people have astigmatism yet don't know but mostly it is because it is so slight the doctors don't tell you it's there. So check your prescription, it's usually there.

Here is an example: -3.25 -1.75 x 90

The first number, -3.25, is the power needed for your vision to sharpen to a visual acuity of about 20/20 which is good eyesight.
The second number, -1.75, this is the astigmatism and the extent. If your prescription has -0.00 or just the letters SPH following the first number, there is no astigmatism but eyesight always changes, so next year it could be different.
The third number, x90, is the axis, it could be anywhere from 0 to 180 degress. Which is what bends certain light rays to compensate for the astigmatism or shape of your eye.

The fact that you have blurry vision is WHY you need the glasses. Contacts would give you the same thing. If you didn't have some sort of vision problem then you wouldn't need the glasses/contacts. Astigmatism is just a misshapen eyeball and they make contacts for it without a problem. If you want to swtich to contacts, it would be fine.

Umm Bad blurry vision is probably why you have glasses in the first place. Have you had your prescription changes at all. Your vision tends to worsen with time... Just go to you eye dr and see if you are ok for contacts. They make contacts for a stigmatism now so you should be safe either way....
