exercising first thing in the am with out eating when the body is in a fasted state is extremely catabolic and is surely not optimum for fat loss or for increasing or preserving lean body mass.

you should always consume something before exercising in the early am. the levels of catabolic hormones are already elevated from the nightly fast. it doesn't have to be much a glass of juice, a piece of fruit, etc. something with some simple sugars and easily digestible proteins is optimum. when pressed for time I have a protein shake with whole oats mixed in then I'll hit the gym in about 40 minutes after that.

What works for me is to eat a granola bar or half of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (anything small like that). To give a little energy and not get tired. Then run my 3 miles. After I'm done running I eat a sensible breakfast.

I usually eat breakfast, wait about 30 minutes and go workout. If I workout before breakfast I usually get light headed rapidly.
Hope this help!

Eat a little something first. Then work out, then the rest of your breakfast.

You should always eat a little something before you work out. Not a entire breakfast meal; but something small like a bananna or an apple. It starts you metabolism so when you do work out; it makes your metabolism go even faster.

So the answer is Yes; but something small.
