Is your cat vaccinated? I'll assume not? Cat's don't really get 'colds' like we do, the viruses they get are more serious. I would think your cat is a cat flu carrier - once they have this virus it's always in their system, they can be contagious to other cats even when they're not showing symptoms themselves.

With cat flu, you can usually control it generally and just needs meds when it flares up, to stop it getting serious. You can use things like Olbas oil or other inhaler decongestants if they get snotty noses - just a few drops on their bedding, you know, or drops in a bowl of very hot water (out of their way of course!) as you would with a human.

Treatment of cat flu is only symptomatic i.e you can treat for the runny nose and eyes, you can't treat the actual illness as there is no cure, only prevention (vaccination). You can only support the body as it fights off the latest bout of the virus.

The medicines you get from your vet are not available elsewhere, you can only really do what I've suggested. If the cat stops eating when ill, you can tempt by using very smelly food like fish, or warming up food and making it sloppy. They lose their appetite when ill because they lose their sense of smell due to their nose being blocked up - cats won't eat what they can't smell.

I would suggest regular veterinary support as cat flu needs to be controlled to stop it becoming dangerous. If your cat ever gets to the point where there is snot coming from both it's eyes and nose, you've got trouble and will HAVE to go to the vet.

If you ring the RSPCA or PDSA(Peoples D for sick animals) check the yellow pages under animal welfare or animal charities they are there to help the likes of us who are maybe on benefits or low income and can't afford vet bills, they will help you by seeing to your cat and all you have to do is leave a donation whatever you can afford, honest trust me. Here is the numbers for some for you PDSA - 0800-731-2502 Cat Protection National Helpline - 08702-099-099 either of these will give you the no. for the RSPCA try boosting up her immunity if you can afford it buy her that ready made milk its made by whiskas and felix it's in little cartons or bottles on the pet isle of any supermarket it can be a little expensive but it supplements her diet and boosts up her vitamins which may help her fight a cold. Check her immunisations are upto date because cat flu is a killer and if she has discharge from her eyes and nose if she is sneezing quite a lot it could well be cat flu she has then she really does need to see a vet but don't panic like i say if you contact these numbers they will be able to advise you. Hope you are able to get some help.

My cat has a damaged immune system and gets colds on a seasonal basis, every few months. I usually go by the vets office and pick up some Amoxy drops for him and it will clear it up. It wouldn't hurt to take him to the Vet first, most allow easy payments. Just to make sure it is something you can clear with antibiotics, then after that, once they have him on record, when it flares up, just drop by and pick up a bottle, mine usually ranges under $20.

Your cat may have a respiratory infection. Some can be fatal. You need to gather up some money and take the cat to the vet to be tested. Try calling the local animal shelter or Humane Society and see if they will help you get your cat tested. Keep it away from other cats until you find out its diagnosis.

Good luck! :)

Vet bills aren't that much - and sometimes they can do a payment plan if they get to be too much. Your cat may have allergies which Id call the vet and talk to them - Ask them about Benedryl. cost nothing to call and talk to them and ask.

you should get you cat checked out by a vet it could be that he has feline enteritis or feline aids these can cause cats to get reccurent colds or it may be that your cat just has low immune system. either way i would get it checked over by a vet.
