when people say, "you can't judge me." i say b.s to that. i can judge all i want. it's how i survive on a daily basis. you have to make judgments in order to know what's right and what's wrong and this includes judging people. i'm assuming the expression began in the biblical sense that i can't judge whether or not a person is going to hell. fine, but for some reason to many people have let this philosophy creep into their normal daily lives. and why is it that people only say other people can't judge them when something critical is said of that person? you never hear a conversation like this:

joe: hey larry, you seem like a good kid.
larry: YOU CAN'T JUDGE ME!!! ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE ME!!!

You CAN judge me, but I just think you don't have the right to. But your right really. In the end you can do whatever you want lol

What you are saying makes perfect sense and everybody judges another person at some time or another.

If a person is at the ATM and a shady character steps in behind them and the person decides to leave the ATM then the person has judged the shady character to be a threat. They do not know anything about the shady character other than what they could see about him. The person judged the shady character to be a bad person.

If a boss hires you then the boss has judged you worthy. If the bank gives you a loan, then the bank has judged you worthy. If you decide to let your girlfriend move in with you then you have judged her worthy.

I love your example conversation at the end. I would not be too suprised to find out it has happend at least once, though.

Judge in Court: I find the defendant guilty of murdering 25 people. You are to be sentenced to the death penalty by lethal injection in 3 months time from today.

Defendant: You can't judge me!! Only God can judge me!!

Judge in Court: Then you can ask Him in about 3 months when you see Him.

I think it's fine to judge actions, but not people. I think what the bible is talking about is not judging others in comparison to yourself, like thinking you're better than someone, like where it talks about not trying to remove the speck of dust from your brother's eye because you might have a plank in your own.

"Can't judge" implies a moral imperative. I feel more comfortable believing that compassion and patience should guide me when dealing with others. It's not out of any rule book, just common decency.

Yep there is nothing stopping you from judging others, but that doesn't mean you'll do it right. I think what they should say is you have no idea how to judge me correctly. Hell we don't even know what correctly is lol.

Sort of stupid question isn't it!

We cannot judge point blank. God tells us that in His word and we are suppose to live by His word. God bless!

I partially agree... but most people who are vehemently judging others don't allow others the same freedom to judge them back... fair is fair ya? hehe

Good point to consider. I never really thought about it that way. I try to keep an open mind to new thoughts that are contrary to my way of thinking.
