Cats get worms from fleas. So more then likely if your cat has worms then it also has fleas. Cats shouldnt have worms and if they do then the cat needs to be treated for worms as well as fleas. Because I have Sphynxs they have no hair which also means they have no fleas so they have never had worms. The reason I know how come cats get worms is because I used to have persians and they got worms because they swallowed an infected flea. So just treat your cat for worms and fleas and it should be all right.
*** It depends on what kind of worms your cat has. Tapeworms are caused from fleas. And if your cat is only inside then your cat has tape worms.
Roundworms are picked up from the parents when the cats are first born and your cat should have already been treated for this as a kitten.
Hookworms are long spag. type worms that can be picked up and then brought in the house by you but for the most part these types of worms are rare.
Tapeworms are the most common worms in cats and that is because fleas are so common so if you are seeing rice type of worms then your cat has fleas and the only way for any other cat or human to get worms is to also swollow an infected flea.

All cats do not have worms.
Worms are usually caught from eating mice, but tapeworms are caught from fleas - the tapeworm egg lives in the adult flea, which is ingested by the cat as the cat grooms, and the tapeworm then hatches in the cat.
Indoor cats can still have fleas, and therefore need to be flea treated regularly to avoid flea and worm infestations. Cats that are allowed outside also need to be wormed at least once every three months.
Lungworms can also be caught from soil.

The first answerer was correct on this one. While not all cats have worms, it's a fairly common problem found in younger kittens/pups in general.
Cats can actually obtain worms (depending on the type) a few ways:
- The most common way is through the ingestion of fleas.
How does this happen?
Well cats are are notoriously tedious groomers and if there happen to be any fleas around they can easily ingest a flea which starts the process of obtaining worms. The fleas themselves actually find worm eggs to be very tasty which then in turn gets transmitted and retransmitted over and over again.
Other ways:
- If your cat is a hunter type, certain types of worms can be picked up or transmitted from animals the cat kills. This again is transmitted in a similar way/fashion as the first statement.
- Genetically. There are a couple of worm types that can also be passed down genetically. Typically a mother that is milk feeding her young can spread worms if she was never treated for them.
Hope this helps!

Not all cats have worms but all cats can get worms. The worms eggs are all around us. They are in the back yard and on the bottom of your shoes. You can drag the worm eggs in the house the cat can clean it's paws then before you know it the cat has worms and the litter box has worm eggs in it then the next cat can get it. It's a never ending cycle. Hope I helped. Good Luck

as the other poster said, not all cats have worms, but all cats can get them. if a cat is not being treated for worms, then it is highly likely they have them. you just because you cant see the worms in their poop with the naked eye, doesnt mean they dont have them.
cats get one or two species of worm from digesting fleas, but the rest come from the food cats eat, or eggs in the environment.
you can carry these eggs into the house with you on your skin or clothes, or your cat can pick them up by being outside. worm eggs are pretty much everywhere. as soon as it licks its fur that has these eggs on it, the cat will ingest the eggs and he will get worms.
ALL cats should be treated for worms regularly. if they are not treated and get a bad infestation, it can cause malnutrition, internal bleeding and even death.
