No, it basically isn't true.
There are very few diseases that humans can catch from dogs. Rabies is one, if you live in an area which is endemic - just get your dog vaccinated against it.
Humans and dogs do not share basic diseases - different immune systems. Your dog should be fleaed and wormed for its own sake, but you don't have much to worry about as far as contracting illnesses from your dog goes. Basic hygiene (i.e clearing up poo, washing hands and not letting the dog lick your mouth) will save you from bacteria.

no it is not possible for a dog or any pet to pass on common animal ails. however rabies and hoof and mouth decease and some really bad ones can be passed like tapeworm ,anthrax.but not everything is transmittable. in some cases chiwawa dogs can make a person feel better when asthma strikes. definitively the answer is NO

It depends on what you're talking about as far as "sickness" certain canine diseases CAN be passed on to humans, but it isnt as though if Fido gets the sniffles you all suddenly have colds.
If your dog is properly vaccinated, there shouldnt be any concerns.

Nonsense. Dogs and other animals have a different biological makeup then humans. I've never seen a dog blow his nose, nor wash his or her hands, so he or she should not be isololated because they have a dry nose.
