The religion was founded on the principals of MARTYRDOM!!! Feeling sorry for themselves is their way of life, makes them more like Jesus in their own minds, and whining fuels their faith. "Jesus said you guys would pick on us" is a standard response, so why bother? It only makes the bad ones worse

I agree. Bashing accomplishes little. It's my opinion that most Christians want to be good people. They are simply misguided in thinking that their religion promotes this.

Simply pointing this out to them, without bashing them, is a good way to make them think.

I often do this with my regular hate-mail providers. All one needs to do is ask them what Jesus would think of their obscenity-laced emails, and I typically don't hear from them again.

Personally, I subscribe to the Unitarian Universalist Church which has no prejudice against any faith and accepts them all... but even I have a hard time struggling with people on this board. It's not because they are closed minded about THEIR religion that baits me to argue so much as they are closed minded and want to "fix" MINE. And I'm not just talkin' about Christians here...
I think if we asked Y!A to make an entire R&S section with subheaders for each religion to have intellegent discussions and questions for their specific beliefs seperately, it would relieve a lot of the frustration and tension here. Not all, mind you, but I think it would keep us all from stepping on each other's toes so much. I have left a suggestion on the suggestion board... that's all I can do : )
But I have a suspicion that if it keeps up like this, they will get rid of the R&S section altogether, it attracts spam and trolls like a magnet.

I do not feel persecuted or even bashed by anyone. I am good at standing up for myself and do not consider myself a victim of anyone. Jesus did not whine either, lol, though he did make wine I believe.

So what is the point?

Christianity, only as it is portrayed in the Bible, doesn't promote "whining" or "feeling sorry" for yourself. It's a wonderful thing, that deserves praise, to recognize that you've been forgiven. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it was "founded" on martyrdom but agree that it inevitably comes into play when you believe in something rejected by the world. The Bible tells us to take peace and strength even when others "bash" what you believe. It's encouragment that even though the world disagrees with you and wants to "bash" you for sharing your beliefs/believing what you do, you are still doing His will. Maybe it's because I am a Christian, but I don't see the point in bashing Christians (or anyone else for that matter.) But I am not going to be a "victim" because I know the truth and have joy in that beyond what the world may want to do to me for it. The Bible also says to be joyfilled when you are persecuted Likewise, I share what I believe not to put other people down, or so they will conform to be like me, or for political reasons but because I believe it is the truth and want others to know. Plain and simple.

You are right, the persecution only makes believers stronger in our faith (2 Corinthians 12:10 NIV). Martyrdom or Self-pity is a gross misrepresentation of believers. But I understand this perception coming from non-believers, who rely only on their mind rather than spirit to figure out what going on with believers (Colossians 2:18 NIV). Believers actually practive humility and outpouring of unconditional, selfless love (1 Peter 5:5 NIV). Believers do this to glorify and focus attention on God, not themselves.

At the same time, they complain about being bashed whether anyone is bashing them or not, so why not bash 'em?

It does work both ways. What they really want is to be 'untouchable' - to have no-one ever disagree with them. I'm not willing to be that dishonest, no matter what the PC police say.

False premise. Your alleged "martyrdom" has been grossly exaggerated and for the most past is historical revisionism.

Letting them taste their own medicine? Not that they ever realise they're doing the exact same to other religions, anyway...

Actually, they're trying to convert us all. I'm just defending. I don't believe in "turning the other cheek" like xians do.
