Is it possible that my 5 month old male kitten is trying to have sex with my 2 year old fixed female cat? How would he even tell that she's a female--being fixed???Or does her gender not even matter to the kitten?

At 5 months old, your male kitten is old enough to be sexually mature. It's fairly unusual for them to try to hump other cats, especially spayed ones, but it certainly happens.

Time to get your kitty castrated, as well as protecting his future health, I imagine he's very frustrated right now! Unneutered toms also pee a lot, and it STINKS. Cats can be neutered from 5 months of age, though if he's small or if his testicles have not yet descended you might have to wait a little longer, but have the vet check him to find out if he's ready yet, as the sooner the better, especially in this case!

Your female is still a female fixed or not. Your male can tell that its a female but because she is fixed they cant have sex. If he is trying to have sex with your female it is about time to get him fixed or he will start spraying in your house. Also sometimes males try to be the boss and so he tries to show them who is boss by trying to have sex with them. If you arent planning on breeding him then get him fixed to prevent him from spraying on stuff.
