Marketing costs, lawyer fees, and hype based on the name. It isn't for quality components or results.

You won't find any knowledgeable audiophile who thinks Bose makes good equipment. Despite the previous responses, Bose is "crap" ... you can do much better for the price from MANY other firms.

Want some evidence ... see the article at the link (reference provided by another respondent to a similar question some weeks ago).

Hi.Bose is in the market to make money(like everyone else)by advertising their products in such a way that many people believe they must be good. There is a lot of competition out there since Home Theater is firmly established and nearly everyone wants some kind of surround sound system .
Before home theater became established the only people who bought equipment were audio enthusiasts who were prepared to spend huge amounts of money on sound equipment, and a lot of companies went broke .But now there is another market where absolute quality is not needed.People expect to pay as little as possible to get the latest equipment which is supplied with more and more features at the expense of sound quality .
In all the years i have been listening to sound equipment i have never come across a product that has had so much controversy on people after a Home Cinema setup .You either believe that Bose is audio nirvana or something that belongs to a portable boom box for background music. In 1972 Bose released what was probably the most remarkable speaker ever made the 901.It was a small encloser housing 9 full range 4inch drivers that could go from 20k HZ to 20HZ and handel about 200 watts continuous which was unheard of in those days.It had to be connected to a special processor to achieve that responce. But again you either liked the sound or you didn't.A lot of people who after a Home Theater system are not interested in achieving expensive Hi Fi sound. While others are striving for perfection for less and less money.
There is no doubt that for the same price of a Bose setup you can get much better. At the end of the day it is what you like that counts and if you enjoy Bose then that is all that matters.
Cheers

I would jump on the Bose sucks bandwagon, but there is no room left.

Instead, I'll actually answer your question.

Bose does have some cutting edge technology, is easy to plug and play, and has what I would call decent to good sound, but mostly you are paying for marketing... try going 24 hours without seeing an infomercial.

Here's a practical experiment for you. Find somewhere that will let you hear the system and price a Bose system- with the optional sub. Go to a decent sized electronics store with a home theater preview room. Give the sales guy 60% of the Bose cost for a budget and listen to the preview.

Draw your own conclusions.

2000 watts? AudioVisualMaster is incorrect. There are several MOSFET (that's M etal O xide S emiconductor F ield E ffect T ransistor) amplifiers out there...

Why Bose Speakers Are Expensive

2016-12-12 09:01:10 · answer #4 · answered by lightbourn 4 · 0 0

All that market hype costs money thats why.
When Dr Bose owned the company and was actually designing systems, they were on the cutting edge. Ever since he was pushed out they have been living on a 30 year old reputation. The only way to keep convincing folks that they are worth so much more then everyone else is to spend tons of money on propaganda. However, as I always try to tell people, go listen, decide for yourself. The best system, speakers whatever, are the ones that sound best to you.

It's called marketing... If you tell everybody a mediocre product is really super but sell it cheap, people will think you're full of **** and not buy your product... If you make it very expensive however people will buy it... Credit where credit is due... BOSE was waaaay ahead of the market when they started selling miniature satelite/subwoofer systems and they are definitely not the only ones with overpriced products... Just go to a store and compare and only believe what you hear yourself... I have never bought a BOSE home product and chances are I never will... I have training and work experience as a studio soundengineer... BOSE pro products is a very different story.

Skip Bose!, overrated and overpriced. A Pioneer A/V Reciever and set of Paradigm's Monitor Series will blow away Bose for similar price range. Bose is for people that do not know audio equipment and buy into mass marketing..

i could invite you to my house to watch my tube tv and tell you its HD and convince you if i have an elaborate marketing strategy. Bose, spends millions on ads, research, store displays, ect... guess who's paying for it? To me, Bose is a shallow sounding w/ little bottom end, I have the accustoms model, and my advice to you is the blindfold test. You wouldn't by a guitar soley based on what it looks like, listen, listen, listen, and take music you a familiar with to the dealer. the always have music with extra instruments bose wants you to hear. If you could afford it, would you be reading this right now or listening to you new Bose music system? I truly believe speakers speak for themselves and don't need all the marketing like Bose does. To me, in just about every market be it cars, doctors, clothing, watches, ect. there's always one who is triple the price and claim to be the best.(just a claim)

Bose to me is way overpriced for a box with two plastic tubes inside, £7/8/900 for that, there must be some very gullible people out there in la la land, when I am sure you can do much better for much less.
