I've told school guidence, and now he sees a counselur, but he just lies to her, and i understand i cant stop that. i guess the thing is, what can i do to help him with his mental illness. I know cutting is aserious thing. I know some people do it for attention, i know almost everything about it..and i know how to make myself stop.. but somone else? .. its harder... alot harder. I just want a couple.... things.. or ideas on how i can help him get over it. he says hes to the point where he'll wake up shaking, and like just sit in a corner and cry.. hes extremely depressed.. and i just want to help him..

I applaud you for telling your school counselor. Your friend NEEDS HELP!! Tell his parents/guardians so they can help him at home as well. Just keep trying to help any way you can..TALK,TALK,TALK to anyone that will listen that can help this child. Make sure he knows he is worthy as a human and praise him on days he makes it with out cutting. You are doing the right thing by telling. Good luck, May God be with you and your friend!

Your friend needs to get some help from qualified psychiatrist. He needs mental evaluation. These burns and cuts are a definate cry for help. There are several reasons this occurs, one is a need for self punishment. Please urge him to find the help he needs. You are a great friend for caring and he is lucky to have you.

I understand your concern and empathy. But what you have to realize, is that you can't help him. You can be supportive of any effort he puts out to help himself....but when it comes down to it, he has to want to help himself. If he lies to his therapist, he doesnt' want any help. He is likely in denial, and until he realizes that he is his own worst enemy and wants to change, he will continue just as he is, no matter what you do.

It's good that you've told your school conselur [whatever] but I would talk to his parents. This is serious. And its good that you've stopped. Hmm.. I'm really sorry about your friend. But I would talk to his parents first. Hope he gets better.
