The most important roles individual courses have played for me have been to introduce me to things about which I wanted to learn more. For example, in high school I took a comparative arts course in which we learned about the literature, music, dance, and art of various cultures and how they fit into the history of those parts of the world. It not only awakened in me a passion for certain poets, composers, and artists, but it ignited a love of travel which has been one of my greatest interests in life. In college, I took a few law-related classes which made me realize that the law was more than just learning a series of regulations, but that legal reasoning presented another approach to problem-solving which would be useful not only in my career, but in life in general. It inspired me to learn more, and more than twenty years later, I ended up going to law school to really understand, something I will never regret (I'm not a practicing lawyer, but I use my legal knowledge constantly).
