Ok, I'll bite. I have a Niece who thinks NASCAR should be banned. She says NASCAR pollutes the air and with gas prices the way they are; to have any autoracing right now seems like a waste of precious fuel.

I am no scientist and I have no stats to backup what I am about to say. The NEXTEL Cup has 36 races out of the years in around 20 locations. Now they race 43 cars on the track...right? They race for about 3 hours.

I fail to see how NASCAR could contribute heavily to pollution of fuel consumption. Yeah you have more fuel consumption per car then normal, and I don't think those cars have a catalytic convertor and other emission reducing devices. But, it is for 3 hours; the location changes each week; and it's there are only 36 events a year.

Now you can throw in the Busch Series, Craftsman Truck Series, Featherlite, and so on. Still, I don't blieve it is enough to total to a significant impact on global pollution of fuel shortages. In fact I dare to guess that it is a very small fraction of a percentage.

So, to all of you who think NASCAR will be the end of Bambi, his friends, and his happy home; let me share with you some things you can do to help the enviornment.

1) Stop passing out fliers. A majority of them end up being thrown on the ground; meaning you have to kill more trees to make more fliers which end up becoming more liter.

2) Your 1960-something VW is creating more pollution then the entire Hendricks Motorsports Team (Busch and NEXTEL Cup). Put your money where your mouth is and buy a Hybrid.

3) How many chemicals where used to make those bumperstickers you have plastered everywhere; not to mention the hundreds holding your VW together? Which also again brings us back to point #1

4) Stop making protest signs. Lumber = dead trees. You need lumber for your signs. Save a tree, stop making protest signs.

5a) Stop protesting. Protests jam up traffic. Tens of thousands of cars stuck for hours burning fuel that pollutes the air; not to mention if one overheats and catches fire creating more pollution. One traffic jam caused by a Protest probably generates more pollution then a NASCAR Race; or even several NASCAR Races.

5b) Stop protesting. When Protestors get arrested; that means paperwork and where does paper come from.....Trees. So if you get arrested Protesting, you are killing more trees then a frustrated Writer.

Nascar is exempt from the clean air act. Besides, the France family has more money than the US government so I'm not worried about it.

I think Al Gores house should be banned. He uses more energy in one month than the average family does in a year and he wants to tax us for it.

Nascar tires DO NOT end up in landfill's. As a matter of fact, NO tires end up in landfills. Used tire's are regulated by the US Government. There shredded and recycled for many other purposes.

What kind of stupid *** question is that? Why would be NASCAR be banned??? That is like asking if baseball should be banned??? What are you a freaking idiot?? So paleogirl does that mean every sport should be banned, since we use precious land to build the stadiums does that mean the starbucks you probably hang out it in should be banned because it could be used for housing for some poor person???? does it mean the car you drive to your cosey little plush job should be banned??? Give me a break NASCAR has been around for 60 yrs. it is an American tradition I can think of a million things that should be banned before NASCAR, im thinking of one right now!!!!

Hey Stupids, think for one moment. Cigarettes would never have been banned 30 years ago. I could see a situation develop where auto racing gets attacked for waste of resources and money. Hard to imagine, but I think it's possible. Auto racing has created a whole new market for jobs and money so it won't happen anytime soon, but 40 years from now, who knows? I've seen many race tracks get demolished as the area they are in no longer tolerate the noise and traffic. I love racing, but it does have its problems.

I see paleogirl has been sucking up the socialist environmentalist propaganda like a Hoover.

There is no better land use than a racetrack.

I love the smell of burned racing fuel and smoking tires.

Most of the used tires are auctioned off for charity or cut up and sold whole as souvenirs or recycled.

The biggest waste of gasoline comes from the daily ferrying of students to and from the government socialist propaganda schools.

Have a nice day, dufus.

Why would we ban Nascar??? If we ban anything it should be wrestling it is totally fake and it sucks. Why would any one in their right mind want to watch two fat men wrestle in their underwear?? Nascar is awesome!!

I can see no reason to ban NASCAR....It has developed many safety features that have been used on the cars we drive on the streets today.

No its entertainment for millions of people.

paleogirl probably wastes more gas idling in a fast food restraunt drive though over a year than a race car does.

why would it be banned? i think the corporation itself if discovered there is a hendrix connection should be overhauled...if you are talking about outright banning due to fuel or environment, then no...there are a lot of other polluters going on out there that do much more damage...racing in its truest form should continue
