If so, why? How does the fact that sex is a natural part of being human and essential to the survival of the species factor into your beliefs related to sex? I'm mostly thinking about religious views on the subject.

Other thoughts?

Heb 13:4

Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

For some reason our society, from the start, has worked toward keeping sex taboo. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, unfortunatly because of our ideas about sex, it's held in some sort of sacred reverance. So then people invest so much of themselves into their relationships and place so much importance on sex, like wanting to remain a virgin till you get married. There's nothing wrong with that. In fact I think it good to have strong convictions, and morals, but people here need to stop using sex to serve some other motive. Like they'll use sex as a weapon, or for revenge, or validation. It's never fair to the person that is looking for love instead of gratification. Sex is just a part of life, and if people want to continue to use it, then they should just use sex for it's intended purpose. Life

No, I think it's an essential aspect of any good, healthy relationship with another human being. It's natural state of being for humans. It's hard for me to put a religious twist on it as I'm agnostic and do not view the subject under that context.

Nope. I couldn't wait until I grew up and could have sex. I even had some worries that I would become addicted like a rabbit or something. (Much to my dismay, I'm not addicted at all!) That was my honest to goodness thought when I was a tween, reading romance novels.

There you go. (yes, I was Christian back then).

sex was God's idea. it was a wonderful idea. He has no quarrel with it.

lol

the problem is that we have made it perverse. it was created for a man and a woman who are married. it really doesn't take long to see the problems infidelity causes, nor does it take long to figure out that homosexual sex is not natural. basically, YOU said that second part before i did, with your question.

that's just about as religious i can get with my answer, and i'm sure i offended somebody with it, christian or not. can't make everybody happy though.

Within the confines of marriage, sex is wonderful. Outside of marriage or a truly committed relationship it becomes just another thing you do. Its no longer special, or important. Like your just going to have sex, spit out a coupla kids, ho hum, no big thing.
I understand everyone has the urge, but learning self control and respect of not only yourself, but other people, and God, is always the best way. And it will become that special important part of your life for you and your partner.

It's a religious thing (which makes sense since you're asking in the R&S section). Nothing more.

Some people may have non-religious opinions against it and that's their perogative.

Put simply though, sex should not be taboo in anyway as long as it is non-public and completely consensual.

I think that sex is bad if the attachment that causes it is to the body of your partner, because that will eventually decay, causing suffering. If an attachment to their personality inspires it then sex is neutral, neither good nor bad...

It is just like many other things (attributes, energies, gifts, talents, tools, etc)--like money, power, etc., in that in and of itself it is neither 'good or bad', but it becomes one or the other depending upon how it is used.

In some belief systems, the approach to this and other such topics is often referred to as "right use of..." (insert topic; i.e., sex, money, love, power, etc)

I think indiscrimante sex is bad. I mean how does someone feel when they discover there were the LAST ONE in town to "have" the other person, sexually. That must be devisting to know you were the runt of litter!

No it is not bad. It, like any other good thing, can be used in a bad way. Sex in and of itself is good though.
