I'm attending an evening wedding in England and I'm not sure how should I dress. In Spain, evening wedding means long fancy dresses, you've got to go really dress up and spend quite a lot of money in a dress, but I wouldn't like to appear overdress. What would you recommend? Thanks

You know what to dress on this occasion. Now it all depends upon what you have. Dress up for the occasion but keep in mind that you have your personality and that you are assertive. Wear whatever you deem fit and feel comfortable in it. That would be better than comparing yourself with others and feeling bad.

Actually I prefer to see someone overdressed It shows they have taken the effort and society is all about us taking the effort
i think the main problem is the weather . Don't you agree ? not knowing if you will be =dressed warm enough these evening do's can get a bit cold .
What colors suit you If you are a brunette ,perhaps think of rich Jewel co lours . what material do you feel most comfortable in ? Satin , silk , Brocade etc . I would not recommend lace , it may look like you want to stand out as being Spanish and unless you get a good quality lace I think it can look cheap Aldo that material will probably be used on the brides outfit or dress in some way
I wouldn't follow the seasons palette as most women at the function will be blindly doing that .

Just chose a co lour that always cheers you up and you feel happy in . As to length I always think a full length shows how a woman can handle herself with poise and grace .
I hope I have been able to help and give you some Guidance I'm sure you will take the extra continental femininity to look lovely Smile Smile Smile !!!!!!!

I don't think it's as formal as in Spain. It depends on where the reception is being held. A nice dress, usually not floor length, should be fine. Don't they all wear large floppy hats to weddings in England? Or is that only during the daytime?

An evening affair usually implies formal wear. Sometimes the invitation indicates "formal or informal"-you might ask someone you know is invited for suggestens and don't feel to proud to do so. We learn by asking and observing.
Best wishes-It is wiser to be "understated that overstated"-otherwise the hostess might feel she comes off 2nd best and that is a definate no no.A simple gown or dress with a chick piece of jewlery, nice hairdo and becoming makeup is always a plus anywhere.

It all depends on the people who are giving the wedding; what type of people the bride and groom are. I have seen pictures of a friend of a friend who was married in England, and it was a very bohemian off-color wedding. But more than likely something formal would be acceptable.

How formal the occasion is, is usually dependant upon time of the occasion rather than location. I suggest you look toward a long formal dress if the wedding is after 6 pm!

I think that I would investigate it a little on the Internet. I would start by checking on the weather for that particular day and what would be the temperature that evening. Then I would go to the society section and select styles. Read up on the latest trends, view the latest styles of dress and make up your mind from there.

My England (Kent) friend recently sent me pictures of her son's wedding that was a very nice affair -- classy place. The women looked to be wearing very dressy evening wear, but to be honest with you, I did not see any long dresses, nor did I see any black being worn by any women, and I saw no women in pants.

since its an evening celebration, i suggest a long dress. make it quite elgant, btu not flashy. Not too colourful or attention seeking. The real etiquette violation is stealing the attention from the bride - keep that in mind as your foremost guideline. Elegance isn't being noticed, but being remembered.

A simple long dress is timeless from casual to formal just by the accessories - jewellery, hair adornment, shoes, handbag and shawl - you choose. A good hairstyle, evening make-up and a whiff of perfume set your whole look. I can see you already looking beautifu. Have fun.
