My son is 8 and he has always wanted to go shirtless in the summer. Do you think it's okay to go without a shirt, even if you're not swimming? Of course, if we go to a store he wears a shirt but when our little neighbor boy comes over to play he acts as if my son is naked or something and even tells him he's half naked. What do you think? Should I make him wear a shirt when he's outside playing? How about the park? If we're at the park and he wants to take off his shirt, is that appropriate? We were at wrestling practice one day and the shirt that he was wearing was very hot so he wanted to take it off while he practiced and one of the dads there started laughing and said no. I don't see anything wrong with it since he's a boy. My dad never wore a shirt in the summer unless he had to so we're just use to it. My ?? is: Am I letting my son run around half naked like people act like he is or are they overreacting!? When they're @ the pool, it's ok, what's the difference?!?!

i think its perfectly fine to not wear a shirt if there is no need and its warm, my Husband, Brother and Dad are all that way. And I predict my son on the way will do the same. If people would like to comment, let them, people ALWAYS have snide remarks for people minding their own business, i guess they are super insecure.
Look at it this way, at least your son is out there playing and being active rather than sitting on his butt playing video games all day, be proud!!! : )

I have raised 5 kids, 3 being boys, am now enjoying 5 grand kids, 4 being boys (one on the way) and I have NUMEROUS pics of them with their shirts off in the summer! There is absolutely nothing wrong with it as far as I can see. Heck if we girls could do it in the summer months, wouldn't most?? Lol.........

I think maybe at sporting events you should pro bally find him cooler clothes to wear. You are then in the public eye and some may be offended by this. And you are right, in swimming pools it is not a prob. I guess it depends on the place and the situation at the time.

The only problem with not wearing a shirt is sun exposure. There is no other reason to wear a shirt outside in your own yard, or at the park.

i think they are definetly overreacting. there is nothing wrong with a boy with his shirt off in the summer, as long as he is wearing sunscreen. LOL. but seriously my brother and cousins always went around without shirts when they were playing outside in the summer

If people are overreacting, maybe check the school's policies for wearing a shirt at practice...maybe the parents who are commenting know something that you aren't aware of.
I'd say at home, pool, etc. not wearing a shirt is fine. In public, maybe have him wear one so as to not offend anyone (not sure why it would). People nowadays are so concerned about germs, so maybe they fear their kids will be exposed to something (like sweat). People are strange sometimes.

I do think that some people might be over reacting, however if I saw a little boy at the park without a shirt on it would strike me as odd.

It would also encourage my daughters to want to take off their shirts, which would cause our fun trip to the park turn into a lesson on modesty and possibly an upset daughter.

It is accepted that no shirts be worn at the pool or in a water setting, but any other time in public I think the shirt should be worn.

He should wear a shirt at the park. In his own yard, it's probably ok. But in a public place, he should be fully dressed. At wrestling practice, he needs a shirt.

If he`s swimming or in his own yard it`s ok. But not in public or if he`s at risk for being bitten to death by bugs!! Always put sun screen on him if the sun`s uv rays are too high.

I would at least make sure that you are putting sunscreen on him frequently if he is going to be shirtless.
