Why are people throwing beer cans at Jeff Gordon? He seems like a perfectly nice guy. Do fans dislike him for some strange reason?

Hating someone for winning-that's a strange notion in a sport, isn't it? Generally people who win are applauded.

You can't really blame Gordon for Earnhardt. Earnhardt is obviously losing because he's just not as good. That's not Gordon's fault.

Dale Earnhardt (and hence Dale Earnhardt Jr.) fans have hated Gordon because he had/has the audacity to beat their man. Jeff Gordon is from California and a certain segment of NASCAR fans still can't root for anyone born North of the Mason Dixon line or West of the Mississippi.

They hate Gordon because he will win at any cost. He is trying to be the next Earnhart. The difference is, Gordon will not accept responsibility to his actions. He can wreck a guy and it is the other guys fault, can you say Kenseth? Then you look at the last two seasons he was terrible, comes in this year and starts breaking Earnharts records one at a time. No I am not a Gordon fan, however if it weren't for Gordon then I might not have a driver to cheer for! I am a huge Jimmie fan!!!

I think it's funny. People are just having fun. I think the throwing should stop though.

Do you know how many Major League Baseball games I've been too and have seen fan's heckling the outfielders, throwing beer at them when there trying to catch a flyball etc.
One time, this fan jumped on the field and mooned the center fielder. He got tackled by 5 security gaurds/cops while trying to run and pull his pant's up. What a fool! That was funny. So that kind of thing doesn't just happen in Nascar........

The reason they throw cans is b/c they are poor sports!! These same people who throw things would love to see their racer win every wkend and if people threw cans at their racer they would be pissed. People need to grow up and act like civilized adults!! Jr fans hate gordon the most and that is just b/c jr isnt a great driver like gordon, but people think he should be b/c his dad was awesome!! I just put it this way, if those same people were at a football game (or anyother sport) if there team lost they would not be throwing cans onto the field. Why they feel they can do it in Nascar is way beyond me!!

People do not like him because when he came to NASCAR he wasn't the prototype NASCAR driver he isn't from the south, he is from California (or Indiana) depends on who you talk to; and he had immediate success, he won the championship in his 2nd full year. The reason people threw cans at him is because it is Talledega and they are very much "Pro-Earnhardt" if you look at the two main times it happened, (both being at Talledega), first time he beat Jr. and the race finished under caution. second time he wins the race and passes Earnhardt Sr on the wins list.

SPEED Channel had a show on the other night.

It was called, "You Can't Blame Hardcore NASCAR Fans for Hating Gordon".

Search it out but be forewarned; they cover only what they consider the Top 10 reasons are.

The most recent incidents were mostly Earnhardt (mostly Sr.) fans. They threw stuff because the two races he won before yesterday was when he tied and went past Dale Sr. on the total wins list. I still think someone throwing toilet paper on the track was funny.

Cheers!

Because You are a fan of a single driver, does'nt necessarily make You a fan of the sport. there is ignorance in all facets of society. these so called racing fans, just wanted to be placed closer to the top of the list.

He's a spoiled brat. His dad quit his job in California to move to South Carolina so Jeff could race. You don't have to be as old in that state. Then he gets with a kick-*** sponsor & wins all the time. People feel like he's been handed everything on a silver platter.

I hope this issue is resolved. There were no cans thrown yesterday that I saw. And since I am from SC, I am glad to see that our state could set the example.

People throw cans because they do not like him, but it is unacceptable and wrong.
