Veuve Cliquot with the distinctive orange label.
Moet & Chandon

I'd also say that Dom Perignon is overpriced and overrated. I would say the same thing about Cristal, but while it's overpriced and overhyped it's still a damn good champagne.

Veuve Clicquot (yellow label) is an excellent, fairly priced French champagne. For sparkling wine, everyday decent wine is Freixenet (Spanish) or California Mumms.

Mumms DVX and Mumms demi-sec. I've loved them for years and they do not disappoint. I even collect them and have over 30 bottles, but it has to be the California Mumms, not the French Mumms. That stuff was nasty and overpriced.
