As I've gotten older, I seem to be more and more allergic to bug bites. An average mosquito bite will swell to anywhere from nickel to quarter size on my body, and I'm the kind of person that seems to attract every mosquito in a 3 mile range. But whether it is from a mosquito, a chigger, a tick or whatever, the bites swell to large sizes and last for 1 to 2 weeks, on average.

My question is this: is there any medical venue for me to pursue in an effort to put an end to this misery? I already try to spray myself down with bug spray before spending time outdoors, but it's gotten to the point that I'm reluctant to even go out to the mailbox without that protective layer of bug spray.

Any ideas?

I deal with anaphylaxis from mosquito bites. I have skipped a few trips to the ER with a very simple step. Take regular aspirin, add water to make a paste, then apply it to the bite and let it dry. When it is dry, the bite is gone! I have yet to find anything to keep them away, so i carry the paste with me during mosquito months... It has to be done fairly quickly to avoid the systemic reaction, but prior to systemic, as long as it was applied within 3 hours, it worked

Move to Canada! The cooler weather there means it is less likely you will encounter so many mosquitos. Living in the South is a death sentence to someone with bad insect allergies, among other things. You should pack your bags, grab your significant other & fly North forever.

Hey, Donnie G, will that treatment also work on chigger bites? I get welts over two square inches in size from one chigger bite.
