I was suffering from upper back pain and even neck pain since 2 weeks. I went to the physician and he referred to me Chiropractic coz he couldn't figure out the cause. After visiting Chiropractic, I discovered that my spine was little curved rather than being straight. I had not known this my whole life. I am now 25 years old. Because of the position of spine, I was told that the nerve was pinched and that is the cause for pain. So he started giving me impulses on the back and told that it would take 8 mths to make my spine straight and normal. I am really confused at this point because I wonder will I be completely okay after 8 mths or not. I have still the pain in my back and it gets worse with little physical activities. Did anyone have such problem ? Are Chiropractic really good in making the spine straight or I am in dilemma ? What would you suggest ? Should I go regular until 8 months and expect something good or its just waste of time and money. Thanks

I find it amazing how you can go to a chiropractor and they will all tell you it will take a few months to correct a spine, yet you people think it is a sham or a money making scheme. Doesn't that show some sort of consistency??? How can so many chiropractors say the same thing, yet it is a monet making system just to keep you coming back?? Why do people still buy into chiropractic being some sort of voodoo quackery? Get with the times people. If anyone is a quack, look to the pharmaceutical companies who make new symptoms and diseases then have to make a drug for it. Restless Leg Syndrome? Come on. Give me a break. Now you have some guy walking around in a commercial smiling all day because his drugs allow him to "get it up" now. What a quack! Do we really need a drug to help us fall asleep and another drug to wake us up in the morning?

If you want pain relief, chiropractic will rid you of your symptoms quick. If you want to correct your problem spine, that will take months. Just like braces on teeth. I strongly recommend you correct the problem and not just relieve the pain. You will avoid a lot of hardship in the future (i.e. arthritis, degenerative disc disease, etc.) if you correct it now.

I did for about 8 months (once a week) after a car accident in '94. They said the same thing about my back, so I went along with the treatment and it went on fine enough. I mean...in retropect I sometimes wonder if they really *did* anything at all, but they once "cracked" my back after it was trown out one time. They also showed me some decent stretching routines as well.

The thing is, that it seems like a lot of PHD's tend to see a chiropractor as a sham. If you feet that way, ask your primary care provider. If I ask 10 people that I know, half will they they are a godsend, the other half will say they are akin to snake oil salesmen from a hundred years ago.

I asked my chiro the same thing...why so long?
Mine was my lower back, I had twisted my sachriliac and he said that was actually the result of being out of alignment for years. After that long the muscles get trained into the wrong position which aggrevates the problem. The chiro will slowly manipulate and put it back in the right position and eventually the muscles will follow suit.
That's why if you notice usually right after you leave their office you feel great, and then a couple of days later it feels like it's back like it was. Because he put it in the right position which should alleviate the pain, and then the muscles slowly pull it back like they were.
Just stick with it, mine took almost a year to where now, I feel great and I haven't been to him in months.

Chiropractors have done great work on my back and on so many of my clients. I recommend you see another chiropractor for a second opinion, just like you would a medical doctor. many times it does take months to straighten out a problem. That's not unusual. But for your peace of mind see another chiropractor. I've enclosed a link where you can find a qualified chiropractor in your area.

I also was having slight pain in my lower back and told the same thing...she gave me the same speel and I bought into it.....she say dollar signs . As she (her phrase for it) adjusted my back, with determination, it felt like she broke my back. Now I am in very severe pain with a very bulging disc and looking at surgery. My advice is to stay away from them... a massage will feel a whole lot better, the chiropractor will keep you coming back for one reason or another...thats how they make their money and thats all it comes down to. You would be better off seeing an orthopedic doctor who wont damage your spine...BJ

Chiropractors are good to an extent, but try to go to a DO they probably can help better. They know better on how to work the back and muscles. Good luck
