Absolutely. That is the obligation of everyone in church. Even preachers can have their biases or opinions that flavor what they say. Are they not human, too?

When a Preacher preaches, he should give the Bible verses he is basing his sermon on.

Yes, I verify that he is accurate.

I once heard a sermon about the reason God created Adam and Eve. He preached out of Genesis. He said that God was lonely and that he wanted friendship with Adam and Eve and to spend time in the garden with them.

After reading Genesis again, I was unable to find that God was ever lonely.

You don't know! That is because pastors and clergy are not infallible on matters of faith and morals and can definately err in their teachings. It is their duty to present us with the truth, but many times (moreso today than ever before) they teach us wrong. We must check what they say and see if it is consistent with the one infallible authority, the Magesterium of the Church. That is why we need to know what is an infallible statement and what is not. This is why so many people nowadays are so confused, thanks to the "spirit of Vatican II," which uses language that can be so easily mis-interpreted and confusing to someone who doesn't look at the material in light of tradition. Read pre VII councils and encyclicals, and find out what is truth.

As stupid as it sounds, I know that the pastor at my church tells the truth because I still attend the church. I verify everything that he teaches by praying about it, by reading the Bible myself, by meditating on it, and by reading other books along the same subject. I don't just accept things without question.

I know whether anyone -- my pastor or someone else -- is teaching me the truth by checking it out in the Bible. Yes, I verify my Pastor's teachings. I've even corrected him a few times when he was in error.

Of course, you should always verify what you hear with your Bible. Any good pastor would also encourage you to do the same.

White Boy,
If you carry a Bible, take notes, read, study, and obey GOD's WORD then the preacher is not teaching you. He is guiding your study aas he should be in a sermon. If you are mindless and going to be taught everything then you are at fault. We are in charge of our own salvation according to what I have read. Have a great week.
Thanks,
Eds, Christian

Grab a bible, ( NIV i recomend )
When he speaks, look and see if he is speaking from the bible and not just from his mouth.
Listen to see if he reads the bible verses and tells people what they mean.
If you want you can listen to my pastor online, hes an amazing speaker!

Yes, for reconfirmation of his teachings. That is why we need to study the word (bible) of God very well.
