My Husband is getting me a half-sleeve for my birthday. Here is a link to the main picture that will run from just above my elbow to just below my shoulder:

In the actual tattoo, the firework won't be there, and her arm will be down at her side. Also, all of her shoes will be present. Now I need to decide on the background that will go around her, and the whole way around my arm, but I have no idea what it should be. My husband suggested movie posters done faintly in black and white, but I'm not sure that would look right. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance :)

Thank you to everyone who answered my actual question. I appreciate your ideas. & to those who asked: I'm getting Marilyn because I've adored her since I was 11 years old [I'm 23 now]. My house is like a museum :)
To the rest of you:
I have 3 tattoos now, and I've been planning this one for 2 years. I am going to get it. My question was not "should I get this tattoo?". I really could care less if you don't think I should. Keep your unwanted opinions to yourself.

Just wanted to say that the picture is beautiful and is going to make an awesome tattoo. Personally, i wouldn't get a background with the tattoo, i think that it may look a little weird. But maybe the right background may compliment the tattoo. i don't know. I wouldn't get a background, final answer.

Do you especially want a background? I don't think Marilyn really needs one! Personally, I'd probably just have a little shading done around her for contrast, just like her shadow sets her off in the photo.
Good luck!

Of all the tattoos, why, Marilyn Monroe???? I just don't see it. I have tattoos and am female and have to say that is the LAST picture I would want permanently blazing on my body. Personal preference I know, but with a half-sleeve which is a ton of work and more than one session, I'd be darn sure that's what you want. Would not be my choice.

Dont make it too busy... you don't want to take away from the main point - Marylin. I'd just do some grey shading for depth

I have no tattoos, and personally couldn't care less who has what on their body.My nephew, who lives in Iowa City,is almost completely covered in tattoos, and he's a a very cool person. He says "The difference between those who have tattoos, and those that don't,is that those who have them, don't mind that you don't have them."Keep it simple.
