I have a fenced yard that is the domain of my dogs. Last night I found that someone had once again thrown food over into my yard. That makes me nuts, to me this is like my kids taking candy from a stranger. Is it just me or should I be pissed. Then what to do because I don't know who is doing it.

I forgot to mention that whoever it is lives in some apartments behind my house and because I've never seen who is dumping I don't know who to talk to.

Yes, you should be upset. I messes up everything you do to take care of your pets if other people are tossing food to them. You don't know what kind of food, if it's rotten, etc. You certainly dont want your pets eating mystery food.

I'd start by speaking to your neighbors. Nothing confrontational. Just stop by and ask if they've seen anything and if so, to please let you know or ask people to stop if they do see anything. That way you're not accusing anyone, but you're also getting the point across that you're not happy about it. If they have been doing it, they will know to stop. If not, they will be able to keep an eye out for anything strange.

Oh yes, I'd be pissed too! And you are correct, it is like a child taking candy from a stranger. Me personally, I would feel like someone was trying to make friends with my dogs for a reason, like possibly breaking into my home at a later time!

As far as what to do, unless you catch someone, there really isn't much you can do.

My dobermans will not take food or treats from anyone but me. My husband could try to hand them a all sorts of goodies, and they will not take it. I am the ONLY food provider they will take food from.

Certain foods can kill your dog....I would talk to the neighbors first and if that doesn't work you should definitely call the police. That can be really dangerous.... You don't know what they are throwing over there, how long it's been there, or even if it was spoiled before it came into your yard.

It's called vandalism. Call the police.

Also, who knows what's mixed into the food? Rat poison or antifreeze for example?

Make sure your dogs are healthy - take them to a vet. Are you feeding your dog properly? I mean, do they look skinny - ribs sticking out etc. The neighbor may be concerned that you aren't taking care of your dogs.

But bottom line - it's still called vandalism. Call the police and report it.

Well, if it is on a certain side talk to the neighbor. I would care but if it is not poisoned, and my dogs won't choke on it...then I guess I would be ok with it. Just talk to a neighbor because you may want it stopped---if a neighbor is upset w/ a dog they often throw food over with like anti freeze in it to try and poison it...happened to our farm dog who was a guard dog. He was fine...but you should look into it...Hope this helps!

I would be leery, why feed their food to you dogs?Unless they are trying to make friends. They don't really need to be your dogs Friends,so try to find out who they are.Do they throw it on the same spot all the time?By the dish?Move it to the other side. They throw it at night?Put a sensor lite out there to kick on the minute they come near the fence.Hope you resolve it,doesn't your dogs bark at the at night??/

No you should be mad if you wanted them to feed your dog you would ask them go over and leave a note of knock on the door and ask them to stop feeding the pets, and if it dosent stop call the police.

maybe watch to see who is doing it or put your dogs inside if you can when you are away so they dont get poisoned from whoever is feeding themor hide in your back yard to catch the person giving your dogs food to ask them face to face to stop.

not really.. its probably scraps left over from when they ate and they are feeding it to your dogs so it is'nt a complete waste...... But if it bothers you that bad just tell them to stop?
