I don't mean to be bigoted or racist, but I'm just curious why I've never seen African American people who believe in the Jewish faith.

How did you miss Sammy Davis, Jr., Josephine Baker, Lisa Bonet, Whoopi Goldberg, Yaphet Kotto and Lenny Kravitz, just to name a tiny number of African American Jews who happen to be famous, too.

You probably haven't been watching enough TV (perish the thought).

There was a recent National Geographic special on a tribe in south-west Africa: these people are the descendents of some refugees from the sack of the Holy Land almost 2,000 years ago. Their ancestors married into the people around them, and passed on their faith (Judaism), customs (especially music), and language (partly). The tribe is indeed black skinned, and follows the Jewish faith.

Their genetic claims were recently (within the last 10 years) explored scientifically, and found to be true. So these folks are Jews both genetically and faithfully.

Sorry I can't remember the name of the tribe!

Probably because Jews don't go around trying to convert everyone they bump into or but stupid fish stickers on their cars. How would you know if any particular African American, or Caucasian for that matter was Jewish?

there are african-american jews in western countries. if jews had followed the example of other religions and sent missionaries out to destroy their native culture and religion by converting them to our faith then maybe we'd have more black jews to speak of. but since we prefer to leave other cultures alone, most of the africans converted to christianity instead.
