I have been taking a kick boxing class and have noticed pain in my shoulder. It is a dull consistance pain. I notice the most pain when I carry my purse on my shoulder. I also notice that the pain will subside when I have my arm raised above my head. Any suggestions on what to take or do for the pain?

It's quite obvious your purse is too heavy for your shoulder. Use a very small purse or else a backpack. Advil tablets taken three to four times daily will help with the pain. Apply a heating pad to your shoulder for fifteen minutes. Afterwards use an analgesic cream.

If this continues see a chiropractor as they are the best at treating sports related problems. I've enclosed a link where you can find a chiropractor in your area.

Is your purse very big? large purses have been attributed to shoulder pain. Also have you been doing enough warmup exercises? Most shoulder problems are related to rotator cuff injuires. For now you should take an anti-inflammatory like motrin or advil...and don't just take it once or when the pain comes...take it regularly for 3 or 4 days...also apply ice packs to the shoulder when possible. If no improvement within a week see a doctor.

Exactly what it is honest and upfront. I have a habit of sleeping with my arm tucked under my pillow and yes the shoulder hurts sometimes when I get up, just a fact of getting older along with other aches and pains, hey the body does wear out, trust me I know. Accept that fact and move on

get a massage (tell these symptoms to a licensed therapist) also try to learn some stretches from your kickboxing trainer ( after a massage therapist works on you, to find which muscles are indicated.)
