Ranch is great on everything but salad. I love it with veggies and use it as a dip.
For salad, I use balsamic vinegrette.
If I had to choose, I'd pick French over ranch, but I don't really like either on salad.

Within the last few years
I have become a salad fanatic --- and, have discovered a host of absolutely superb blends of ingredients FOR them -- and the story simply doesn't end there -- because -- almost every single month that goes by -- I find yet another that I have not heard of or tried !!
It amazes me to this day at how versatile Ranch dressing is -- and a really good quality OF Ranch seems to have the ability to "shift" certain taste factors within its effect -- depending upon the substance that it is being added to !! I, personally, believe it to be the absolute perfect blend for MOST salads (even though I DO advocate LIGHT use --- to drown any salad in dressing of ANY type is a travesty !!)

Yes, I eat a lot of salad - one everyday for lunch, as a matter of fact!
I do not use salad dressing. It defeats the purpose of eating a sald.
