What can I feed her to help her gain weight? I have 4 different kinds of dried food setting out for her all the time. I cook her beef and chicken. I give her cheese and Half & Half. I don't know what else to give her. When I give her pouches of wet food she licks the juice out and leaves the rest. Any suggestions please?

Duh! Sorry folks, I made a mistake. My cat is hyperthyroid. Her blood levels are checked regularly and her medication is correct - she's on Methimazole, 5MG, 2 times a day. But I feel so bad for her. I've tried giving her kitten food, but that runs right through her system. I've tried offering her McDonald's food because if anything will make you fat it's that, but she won't even touch their "patties". She likes bacon, but then she drinks and urinates like crazy because of the salt.

My cat Kinsey have been on medication for HYPERthroidism (that's the one where they lose weight) for several months now. He has gained a little bit but not all of his weight back. I am going tomorrow with him to the clinic where he will have the radio-iodine treatment for the growth on his thyroid. I joined the Yahoo group felinehyperT and have learned that he may even lose a little weight after that treatment. I had that done for a cat seven years ago and don't remember all that goes on.
At any rate, your cat may have had a more serious condition than mine when you started the medication and it takes a while for the vet to determine the exact dosage necessary to correct the excess thyroid secretion. The MEDICINE will correct the condition so I am sure she is improving and it may take six months before things are back to "normal". It is good that you are feeding her well and food is not what will make her get her weight back.
If you wish to join the group (there are two) go to: http://www.yahoogroups.com and put in a search for felinehyperT. You will have no problem having your membership "approved" and can post questions there, read the other member posts and receive great support as you and your cat make the journey to correct the condition.

How long has she been on the medication for? It can take a little time to find the correct dose, and a while after that for you to start seeing results. It means quite frequent trips to the vet when initially diagnosed, but then only 6-monthly trips after that.
The answer is to find the correct dose of medication rather than trying to fatten her up - if she's hyperthyroid, just feeding her more isn't going to make it happen. Report back to the vet, if you haven't already, if you haven't seen a change. You're feeding her plenty (although lose the cheese, not good for her digestive tract or her arteries). An all-dry diet is quite acceptable, and may be your only option if she doesn't like wet food.

If his ribs are protruding, he's skinny. that's perplexing to tell out of your photos, yet he would not look emaciated. some cats are commonly svelte. There commonly is an spectacular develop spurt as much as 5-6 months, and a leveling off, and little income after twelve months, in spite of the reality that breeds can selection. With overfeeding, of direction, there is fairly much no shrink to how some distance fur will stretch. My 5 year previous tabby is with regard to the comparable weight as my 11 month previous calico. And my tabby has held her weight in an extremely slender selection for many of her existence, after her kitten develop spurt, and continues to be slender. listed here are some rules on weight: in case you will discover the ribs, your cat is in simple terms too skinny look into your cat from above. The animal would desire to have a different waist at the back of the ribs. If the waist is severe or if bony prominences are seen, the animal is in simple terms too skinny. look into your cat from the section. Cats would desire to have an belly tuck (the section at the back of the ribs would desire to be smaller in diameter than the chest). An animal who's in simple terms too skinny would have an extremely severe belly tuck.

Its possible that the dosage of the medication is too high, giving her the symptoms hyperthyroidism. A quick visit to the vet and a blood test can show if that is the case. If it is the case, the vet may adjust the dosage of the medicine that she takes. There are also other diseases that can cause skinniness in cats, so probably a trip to the vet should be the next step for you and kitty.

Hi
First, there is nothing wrong with giving people foods like meat.
Untill you gind the correct dose (tapazole?) weight will continue to be lost. Also, there are other options besides pills if tht isn't working

Stop giving anything with dairy, it can cause diarrhea, and will add to your problem. I would recommend stopping with the people food as well.
Try a loaf wet cat food (not sliced), maybe mixed with KMR (kitten milk replacer) to give her a boost in calories.

I agree to stop with the people food and dairy products, but you need to discuss this problem with your vet. They will probably have you bring her in and weigh her(to compare it to last time), check her blood levels, and discuss what the next thing to would be. They will be able to tell you which food is best and if her meds need to be changed. Please, Please call the vet and get her in to be seen asap, before she gets any skinnier and more health problems arise.
