Look around. Either the school cheerleaders are open or are a closed clique by voting or requiring skills developed over years. There are dozens of competitive teams in some areas and none in others.
Are you athletic and good at dancing? Outgoing enough to be part of the social team? If not, perhaps you ought to take up drama, computers, or mathematics.

Try a team with your school or sometimes neighborhood sports teams have cheerleaders that perform for them.
