You don't transfer, you get out of the Army(ETS), then join the Marines, it is enlisting all over again.

Harley is right but it’s the same for the ARMY as well. Navy and Air force personnel cannot transfer into the Army without Boot Camp. Although for an Army person to transfer into the Marines they have to go through Marine Basic Training. Even so the Army and the Marines do not have to go through boot to go into the Air force or Navy.
(Although when you leave the Marines and go into the Army or any other service transfer you still have to go through the Advanced Individual Training for the incoming service.)

Well for one he can't just transfer into the Marines from the Army. After all the initial paperwork is finished, he still needs to go through Marine Corps boot camp and so on. No person can transfer from another branch of the Service into the Marines without going through USMC boot camp. There is not one single Marine who has not gone through Marine Corps boot camp.

A Marine recruiter once told me they don't take prior service Army, anyway. He said that I was better off going back into the Army.

The paperwork could take some time. There is also the problem that they will need to go to boot :) Semper Fi

I was in an Army Ranger unit across from a Navy base. A guy from the Navy, transferred after eight years in the Navy, he walked across the street and changed clothes.

There are several factors that will effect this. Age at the time of transfer, MOS, EAOS(end of obligated service). Typically a service to service transfer takes place at the end of an enlistment. A person desiring to transfer to another service should begin thier reserach into it at least 6 months prior to thier EAOS(discharge date). They need to talk to a recruiter or career counselor for the service they wish to transfer to, asap.
