Neither. The seat cushion is a floatation device... if the plane goes down in water, you grab it and hold on until you are overcome by the cold water and the hypothermia knocks you unconscious,.. then you drown.

Life jackets are on airplanes that are over water equipped. This does not mean that a domestic flight will not have life vests as many over water aircraft are flown over land. Other planes that are not considered over water aircraft have the floatable cushions.

Neither - they tell you to hang onto the seat cushion if the plane crashes into the ocean - kinda difficult if your arms have come off in the crash then you get eaten by sharks
