Well, yeah. There's a certain class of drink my friends used to call "frou-frou drinks." Easy to drink, full of calories, often with fruit stuck in them. Not drunk by serious people or jocks.

OTOH, serious writer types should drink butch drinks, like whiskey on the rocks or straight. (-: It's all silly. I think you should drink what you like, but there is a definite image thing connected to drinks. If you are male and drinking appletinis, you better be pretty secure in your masculinity (-:.

definitely:
cognac = sophisticated
beer = student, or beer belly man
whiskey= bad ***
tequila= desperado
wine = romantic, gourmand
rum= hobo
vodka= drunk
cocktails= posh, night life

and the list can go on and on about the different brands in each category or even new categories. it is all related to the taste, price and effect of the drink. i guess the most eloquent example of how different the images associated with alcohol are is the response you get from a woman when you offer her a drink.
