Sooner or later they'll find out he isn't. Meanwhile, you've also been telling them God is real. Once they find out the one thing was a lie, aren't you afraid they'll conclude the other was as well?

Yeah, and what about purposely lying to the kids? That sets an example that it's okay to lie -- if Mummy & Daddy can lie, then it must be OK. What kind of a Christian example is that, especially when the focus of Christmas is supposed to be on Christ -- but everybody knows it is really about commercialism, and Santa represents sales of toys.

No they are not wron, I raised 2 daughtes, Now age 38 & 37, My 1sy wife taught them about Santa Claus As I did some too, but not as much. Today with my chirldren all those years being taught santa claus, They out grown that, & to this day, They still know there is a ONE TRUE GOID, you see, you have to use wisdom in talking to them, My parents even taught me about santa clause, Now I am 57 yrs. Old, & still enjoy the times of Christimas. Now to ask you a question, do you atheists teach your childen that there is no Christmas Let alone if there is any God, Don't come up with this carbage that you let them lead their own life, There was a time you taught them something, or did you not have the intelligence to tell them anything, which your intelligence don't go very far.

I have by own view point on religion but I'm going to tell you how I feel about this. As a parent your responsibility is getting your child ready for the world ahead. Right

Santa Claus is a concept a parent has to educate their child about. How they choose to do that is up to them. Kids believe alot of things without their parents approval. We are talking abut a human being here just like you.

Santa Claus has nothing to do with how the child responds to religion. Their family life and all the experiences they have will put them in touch with God. If they feel like staring at the fireplace every year on Dec 24th at midnight it's just a hobby.

Yes, it IS wrong because its a LIE. You can celebrate Christmas just as well WITHOUT Santa.

My son had all the fun that other kids have at Christmas, Easter, etc. as well as when his teeth started coming out, but I changed the "traditional" things to something else that was not a lie.

Christians, think about this: at Christmas, who do your kids think of most? Jesus or Santa????

No. I do not think it's a bad idea at all. It is healthy for children to fantasize and dream, to anticipate and be excited. My parents let me and my siblings believe in Santa Claus and we still believe in God. It wasn't a traumatic experience realizing that Santa is really just a legend and being the eldest child I did not let my younger siblings in on the fact because they were happy believing.

I don't think it's wrong, and everyone knows there is some greater being out there, whether they want to confess it or not. The Santa Claus thing is more of a story anyway. Even if you don't tell your kids, they will learn from others.

Yes. That's something my husband and I disagree on. He's agnostic, I'm a Christian. I don't want to lie to our kids, whenever we have them. I know some atheists will think that telling them about God is lying to them, but I don't agree. I've come to believe that there is DEFINITELY a God, and I will share that belief with my children.

I think the celebration of Christmas is mysterious and wondrous enough and does not necessitate the use of a diminished and truncated version of a Catholic saint created by retailers to sell consumer goods.
