Going through medical school, for every class for an hour, we did an hour homework. Sometimes it worked out to more, much more. Lab work, I would come in three hours before class sometimes. I was a top student and worked hard. Some people didn't do much homework and got by, how, I didn't know. I always though they were just smart. Actually they were just making it. I learned this later, homework to them was not a priority.
I just read where homework was just put on the line. Some students that were elected to do the home work and some that didn't. At the end of that marking period, they both got the same marks they would have gotten before. Showing that for this test, homework didn't matter.
Some students that are slow need it, to aide them in the class, while some are smart enough to go without it. What to do without singling out these slow students and creating a problem for them or, you, being bias? maybe. You could be in trouble.

it depends..because there are students who are doing their homework in school...it means they don't like homeworks but they're just afraid to their teachers..homework cheating is usually done by students in first section.. i say this because my classmates are that way...they are just depending to my other classmates...it is also necessary to let students learn to search or try a research and the other answerer also have a point that it is for the parents..

Yes - it will also teach you a bit of self discipline.
Not everything can be learned in a classroom - if you are lucky enough to be academic - the self discipline will come in handy.
For those who are not very academic - they need all the help they can get.
