I am on 20mg of Lexapro, and I would like to cut it to 10mg. Is it safe to cut it to 10 and if so will I go through withdrawl ? I have left messages for my doctor and I am getting no response, and at 20 I am getting really bad muscle twitches and spasms....
Thanks

Let me put in my own two cents worth, please. For me, what it did was act as a very potent sedative. By this, I mean as an anti-depressant, there was just no getting anything done. Also, there were no withdrawl effects I had to deal with when I discontinued using it.

I would definitely discuss it with your doctor first. Keep pestering them until you get to talk to the doctor. As for whether or not it's safe to cut the tablet in half, which I think you might be asking, the answer to that is yes. The best way to wean completely off of the lexapro is to cut the dose down to 10mg for a week then 5mg for a week then stop.

Also, talk to your doctor about what else might be causing the muscle twitches and spasms. Especially if they don't stop once you stop using the lexapro. It may be something totally unrelated.

Good luck!

If you can't get through to your doctor call your pharmacist and ask the pharmacist not an assistant this question. He/she may be able to help you with an answer. Or maybe you can get the pharmacy to call your doctor's office for you, they may have more success in getting a responce.

BE CAREFUL!!!!!

dont act without asking a doctor, dont listen to anyone who says otherwise!!! (though that pharm techy is pretty good, first answer) this is very important suddenly stopping a med can have very bad side effects to your mental health please dont be foolish on this one!

everyone who is depressed thinks they can handle it on thier own, but you may need help you're not a super hero for crying out loud there is no shame in being sad. please talk to your doctor before you do anything.
