Unfortunately you cant switch your status without returning to Pakistan. You can lodge a Work Permit application here in the UK, but once your Work Permit application is approved you will need to apply for Entry Clearance at the British Diplomatic Post in Pakistan.

It appears that to switch from student dependent to work permit, you would need to return to Pak. Note that it is the employer who would need to apply for you, and would have to satisfy Immigration that the post could not be adequately filled by an EU national. The HSMP route provides you much more flexibility, but it looks as though you would still need to apply from abroad.

As Frisky said, you are allowed to work freely as loing as your visa is valid, so I would take up the job, explaining the situation to your employer, that you might need to return to Pak to apply to return. It may be worth checking out with an OISC regulated immigration advisor if it is possible for you to initiate the application from here, just returning to be interviewed an the UK embassy, and how this might impact on your application and on your current status.

Good luck! and ignore the idiot who thinks he is paying tax to keep you, it's the other way round more likely!!!!

Yes I dont think you would have to go back to Pakistan.Visit the Home Office in London. They could then wisk you very quickly to Heathrow and Terminal 4.

You will have to go back and re-apply for a work visa, other wise you would be working here illegally and a candidate for prison.

Yes i think you can , you need to contact your nearest d.w.p. ( department of work & pension`s ) or the number on your existing visa card , they shouldnt be a problem with you working here in the uk . Good luck .

Why bother? As a student dependant you can work unlimited hours until your leave expires.
