Severe chest pain should always be diagnosed by a physician because the cause is so often heart-related. Pain that goes away can be caused by a TIA, transient ischemic attack, in which a cardiac artery is blocked, depriving some part of th heart of oxygen. The result is pain, which goes away when the attack is over. TIA is a precursor to acute coronary syndrome, a full-bore heart attack that can kill you.

It could also be angina.

Just because the pain is on the right is no reason for the patient to ignore it and think it's not the heart. Pain can be referred. Your heart could be different.

See a doctor. Do it today.

Is the pain like a stabbing pain in the side of the chest?
If so it is probably inflammation of the intercoster muscles that are situated between the ribcage and the lung. Normally there is a clearance between the two but sometimes is inflamed they can rub causing a lot of pain.
Best bet is to get down to the GP and have it checked out.

This is an example of what happened to me and could apply to what is happening with you.

Once I inhaled and developed a pain in my chest that lasted 25 minutes. I learned at the doctor that I had inflammation around my heart.

Fortunately a prescription took care of it. If I were you I would go have it checked out. Good Luck.

As a 40th birthday present, I was told that at some time in the past I had a "Silent MI" which is a heart attack with no symptoms. I would get any severe chest pain checked out. I figure better safe than dead.
